"Hey, Leah! Earth to Leah!" I waved my hand in front of her face. "LEAH! Can I have you attention for just _one_ moment before you go talk to Alec?"
"No, Nessie." she said.
"How come you didn't imprint on him during the newborn war?"
"I don't know. I was a wolf, that was different. I saw him only from a distance. Can I go meet him now?"
"Fine. Come on." I helped her get out, holding her hand to steady herself. Alec floated over.
"Hello, Renesmee. I am glad that you approached me." Alec said. "And who's your..._friend?_"
"Alec, this is Leah. Leah, this is Alec."
"Hi...I'm Leah." Leah put out her hand.
Alec, disgusted, reluctantly shook her hand then wiped it on the front of his pants. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance."
"Yeah. Ditto." Leah said.
I patted Alec's shoulder and said, "Well, it's time for me to go home. Come on, Leah. You've met Alec."
"DON'T touch him!" she growled.
"Leah! Don't phase! Just relax. I wasn't going to hurt him," I said. "this time." I mumbled under my breath.
"Oh my, Leah, is it that you are one of those so-called shape-shifters?"
"Yes. I am. You're a vampire, but I don't care."
"Oh, my. Renesmee, you never once told me that you were friends with a monster."
Leah giggled when she heard that.
This is when I got defensive. "ALEC! If anyone's a monster, it's you and I. She was made to _protect_ humankind, not drain them of all of their blood."
"Fascinating. Tell me, where can I find something to eat? I'm starving. And in order to keep up my non scarlet-eyed appearance, I must drink animal blood."
"You can hunt with me." Leah said. Oh, goodness. "Nessie, drive my truck home. Your blouse is in the passenger seat."
"Fine. WAIT--my blouse?"
"Yeah, you left it at Jacob's," she said, eyeing me suspiciously.
"I slept over! I borrowed Jacob's shirt to sleep in! Don't go jumping to conclusions!" I protested.
I couldn't be sure, but I saw Alec's brow furrow. "Whatever," Leah said. "The keys are in ignition."
I just walked away and drove home. I called Jacob. "Jacob!" I said.
"Hey, Nessie. Leah pick you up?" Jacob asked.
"Yeah, she did. But actually, Leah imprinted. On someone from my school."
Jacob gasped. "Yea! Finally!"
I groaned. "Oh, Jacob. She imprinted on a vampire! Alec! One of the Volturi! And he is _disgusted_ with her!"
Jacob groaned back. "Oh, no. Crap! This could be even worse than the Sam-Emily-four-kids thing."
"I know. Can I come over! Sorry I didn't hunt with you."
"Relax! It's OK. You've got Leah's truck, I presume? She's talking to him trying to win him over?"
"You got it. I'll be right over."
"Cool. See you then. Love you. Bye"
"Love you, bye!"
When I got to Jacob's, he was sitting on the porch steps with his shirt off, leaning against his house. "Hey, Nessie." he said.
"Hi. Hold on, I need to call my Mom. Let her know I'm here."
"OK."
I dialed up my mom's cell phone. It rang five times before she picked up. "Hey, Renesmee." She said.
"Hey Mom. I'm at Jacob's. I'm staying for a while."
"Okay, have fun. Your father and I are just cleaning the cottage."
"Um...okay...? Don't forget my room! It's a mess!"
"'Nesmee, it's never a mess."
"I know, just joking!"
"Okay. Call me when you're coming home."
"OK. Love you! Bye!"
"Loves. Bye."
I tapped the end button.
"So what do you wanna do, Nessie?"
I answered him be leaning against him and pressing my lips against his. After a while, I pulled away. "Yeah, we could do that." he said. And we continued kissing. We broke apart to open the door to his house and go into his room, hand in hand.
We sat on his couch and just...talked. We talked about the day, we talked about Leah, we talked about my parents. Jacob made dinner for us. That is, for him. I just sat there, and took little crumbs from the cookies he ate. We kissed for a while, then I decided to go home. Jacob drove me. We kissed some more and talked some more in his car.
I called my mom. "Mom, I'm home."
"Hi, Renesmee, did you have fun with Jacob?"
"Yeah, a LOT. We talked and...stuff." I didn't think she wanted to know that we kissed.
"What does 'stuff' mean? Did you--"
"NO, Mom! 'Stuff' means kissing, okay? That's all. He made dinner too. I had some cookies."
"Okay. Are you home?"
"Yeah, we're in the driveway. I forgot to call you."
"Oh, okay. Come right in."
We did. The house looked amazing. "We redecorated your room for your birthday." Dad said.
"Wow, thanks you guys!" I said.
Jacob and I went to see it, Alice and Mom and Dad trailing behind. It was painted red and white. It used to be just white. There was a new comforter, new rugs. It all pulled together quite nicely.
"I was in charge of the design," Alice said.
"Well, good job! I really like it!" I told her appreciatively.
"I knew you would," she said, giggling.
Jacob started to say, "It reminds--"
"--You of blood. I know, but _that's what Renesmee likes._" Alice finished.
"Yeah, liking it more now." Jacob said. I just smiled and grabbed his hand.
As soon as Jacob left, I became sad. I'd been seeing an awful lot of him lately, so it was harder to get used to when he was gone. It was like, my heart was a red balloon. When Jacob was around, it was full, almost to burst. When he was gone, it was empty and limp. It made me feel sick to my stomach. Leah, the pack's expert on imprinting, since she had wanted to imprint for so long, had said that that was part of the imprinting thing. Since we were made for each other. It all made perfect sense.
When I was alone, Jacob completely gone, my father approached me and told me to sit down.
"Renesmee Cullen!" my Dad shouted, only when I was in trouble. My mother appeared at his side.
"Edward, that's my daughter. Don't be too hard on her!"
"She's my daughter too! I have a say in how she's raised!"
"EDWARD! What I'm trying to say is, remember when we were young?"
My dad chuckled at "we were young." because, well, they still _were_ young. "Yeah, but she's not you! I don't want her to get in too deep with Jacob and get hurt!"
"Dad, that's not going to happen." I said. Then reluctantly, because this was an awkward topic with my dad, I said, "Jacob and I are in love. He would do anything for me. I would do anything for him. There are ways that you can...show love for the person you love, and Jacob and I _haven't_ done anything extreme."
My dad calmed down. I think love hit a soft spot for him. "Look, Nessie, I know all about love. And I want you to have it too. But I don't--well, a half-vampire half-human half-werewolf baby could be dangerous. I don't really like the idea of you sleeping in the same room as Jacob. I don't like it at all, actually."
I sighed. "Fine."
And that was that.
"No, Nessie." she said.
"How come you didn't imprint on him during the newborn war?"
