When Jacob dropped me off from school the next morning, he gave me a big hug and a kiss. "Good luck. It's only your second day of school. Hope you don't die."
I laughed. "Thank you so much for letting me crash last night. I know I'll get in huge trouble today with Mom and Dad."
"Not while I'm around. I'll take the blame and say I called you. And no problem. If it were up to me, we'd live in the same house. You'd stay over every night."
"Thanks, but Dad can read minds."
"...Oh yeah. Oops. Forgot."
"Yeah, well, thanks anyways. I love you." We kissed for a while, and when I pulled away, he looked down and his eyes lit up.
"Cute shirt, by the way." He remarked.
"Oh, thanks." I had used the hair tie to tie one of those little knots in his t-shirt to make it fit me more. Otherwise, I wore the same everything I wore yesterday and my hair was down.
"Love you. Have a good day!" he said as I got out of the truck.
"Love you!"
I waved and blew a kiss to Jacob.
I entered the building. Jamie approached me right away. "Hi, Jamie!"
"Hey, Renesmee! How did you first day go?"
"It went well, I guess. It's really different than...homeschooling."
"No kidding. So who's that hot dude I saw you making out with in the truck?"
I blushed. "Oh, that's Jacob. He's my boyfriend. We're in love!"
"How romantic! Urgh! So where does he go to school?"
"University of Washington. He's in college and he's twent--um, he's nineteen." Jacob was older than he looked. He aged quickly, then slowed down, like me.
"Oh my gosh, that's illegal, right? You're only seventeen! You can't date a minor, right?" Jamie was concerned. She pushed her glasses up on the top of the bridge of her nose, tightened her short pigtails, and smoothed out her "Reading is Sexy" shirt. Something I'd noticed she tended to do when she got nervous, like in biology when she was caught reading a book in the middle of class.
"Um, no, I'm eighteen." I lied. It wasn't the first time I'd lied about my age. I hadn't caught her attention. She was staring at something beyond me. I turned around.
Behind me was the most beautiful dark-haired pail-skinned boy I'd ever seen. He was with a beautiful blonde girl, also pale-skinned. It didn't take my long to put the pieces together.
"Oh. My. God. That is the hottest boy I've ever seen," Jamie said.
"Totally cute! I love new boys! Let's become friends with his sister!" Bryn squealed. I didn't even know she was here, she's so quiet!
"Excuse me." I pushed past the two girls in the direction of the new kids.
What in the world was Alec and Jane doing at Sequim High School?
